Take-Two Interactive has officially confirmed support for the Nintendo Switch 2, sparking speculation among fans about the possibility of GTA 6 coming to the platform. Could this mean a major Rockstar title is heading to Nintendo’s next-gen console?
Take-Two Announces Plans for Nintendo Switch 2
During Take-Two Interactive’s earnings call on February 6, 2025, CEO Strauss Zelnick revealed the company’s commitment to supporting Nintendo’s next console. While details about their game lineup remain a mystery, Zelnick stated that Take-Two has always backed Nintendo platforms when it aligns with their strategy.
Historically, Nintendo consoles focused on a younger audience, which limited Take-Two’s releases on platforms like the Wii U and DS. However, the Switch’s massive success and broader demographic led to more Take-Two titles appearing on the console. Games like Borderlands, BioShock, and NBA 2K found a home on the Switch, paving the way for an even stronger presence on its successor.
One of the first confirmed Take-Two releases for the Switch 2 is Civilization VII, set to launch on February 11. This suggests the company has big plans for Nintendo’s upcoming console.
Could GTA 6 or Borderlands 4 Be Coming to Switch 2?
As soon as Take-Two confirmed support for the Switch 2, speculation took over Reddit and gaming forums. The biggest question: Could GTA 6 be coming to Nintendo’s new console?
While some fans are hopeful, others doubt the hardware will be powerful enough. GTA 6 is expected to be one of the most advanced open-world games ever, requiring next-gen performance. The same concern applies to Borderlands 4, which would also demand significant power.
Instead, many believe Take-Two will port GTA 5, Red Dead Redemption 2, or other 2K titles to the Switch 2. These games have already been optimized for weaker hardware, making them more likely candidates.
Can the Switch 2 Handle GTA 6?
The biggest obstacle to GTA 6 on Switch 2 is hardware power. Since Nintendo hasn’t revealed the console’s specs, it’s unclear whether it can run a game as demanding as GTA 6 without significant downgrades.
However, if the Switch 2 includes features like DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) or cloud gaming capabilities, a scaled-down version of GTA 6 isn’t impossible. Other Rockstar games have been ported to less powerful hardware, so a cloud-based or optimized version could be in the cards.
What’s Next for Take-Two and Nintendo?
While we wait for official details, one thing is clear: Take-Two is serious about supporting the Switch 2. Whether that means ports of GTA 6, Borderlands 4, or remasters of older classics, Nintendo fans will have plenty to look forward to.
With the Switch 2 expected to launch in 2025, we should hear more about Take-Two’s lineup in the coming months.
