For now, GTA 6 is officially confirmed only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but a PC version seems inevitable—especially after Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick's latest comments.
While Rockstar has yet to announce a PC release, history suggests that the long-awaited open-world sequel will make its way to PC at some point. Now, Zelnick has added more fuel to the fire, seemingly teasing that GTA 6 will eventually hit PC—just not at launch.
GTA 6 PC Release: What Take-Two's CEO Said
During an earnings call last week, Zelnick reaffirmed that GTA 6 is still on track for its Fall 2025 release, while also acknowledging that “there’s always a risk of slippage” when launching a game of this scale.
However, in an interview with IGN, he addressed the timing of platform releases, specifically referencing Rockstar’s past approach:
"With Civ 7, it's available on console and PC and Switch right away. With regard to others in our lineup, we don't always go across all platforms simultaneously. Historically, Rockstar has started with some platforms and then historically moved to other platforms."
While he didn’t explicitly confirm a PC version of GTA 6, this statement heavily suggests that Rockstar is following its usual release strategy—launching first on consoles, then expanding to PC later.
PC Gaming’s Growing Market Share—Another Hint?
Zelnick also emphasized the increasing importance of PC gaming, noting that a PC version of a major multiplatform title can account for 40% of overall sales. He added that the PC market is now a much bigger part of what was once a console-dominated industry.
With GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 both achieving massive success on PC, it would be surprising if Rockstar skipped the platform altogether.
How Long Will It Take for GTA 6 to Arrive on PC?
While a PC version seems certain, the big question is when. Looking at past Rockstar releases gives us an idea:
GTA 5 launched on consoles in 2013, followed by a PC release 18 months later in April 2015.
Red Dead Redemption 2 followed a similar pattern, launching on PS4/Xbox One in October 2018, then on PC in November 2019—a delay of just over a year.
If Rockstar follows this trend, GTA 6 could see a PC release sometime in late 2026 or early 2027. Of course, this is just speculation—Rockstar could shorten the gap this time around, or even surprise fans with a simultaneous PC launch.
Why Does Rockstar Delay PC Releases?
There are a few reasons why Rockstar staggered past PC releases:
Optimization: Rockstar takes time to ensure that PC versions are well-optimized and include enhanced graphics, additional features, and mod support.
Sales Strategy: Releasing on consoles first ensures that dedicated players buy the game twice—first on console, then again on PC for the improved version.
Technical Considerations: PC games require more testing and optimization due to the wide variety of hardware configurations.
Conclusion: GTA 6 on PC Is a Matter of When, Not If
With Take-Two emphasizing the PC market’s growth and Rockstar’s history of porting games later, it’s almost guaranteed that GTA 6 will eventually come to PC. The only question is how long the wait will be.
For now, GTA 6 launches in Fall 2025 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Whether we’ll see an official PC announcement alongside launch or have to wait another year or more, one thing is certain—PC players won’t be left behind forever.
Do you think Rockstar will shorten the PC release gap this time? Let us know in the comments!
