Is Rockstar Preparing to Revolutionize GTA 6 with Player-Created Content?
GTA 6 is already shaping up to be the most ambitious Rockstar game yet, but new reports suggest it could take inspiration from Fortnite and Roblox by introducing user-generated content (UGC). If true, this could massively expand GTA 6’s longevity, giving players the power to create custom experiences within the game.
According to a report from Digiday, Rockstar has been in discussions with top content creators from the GTA, Fortnite, and Roblox communities about how user-generated content could play a role in GTA 6. While details are scarce, this suggests Rockstar may be looking to integrate creator-driven gameplay, mods, or even monetized custom content.
But what does this mean for the future of GTA 6 Online? Let’s break it down.
Why Rockstar Might Introduce UGC in GTA 6
GTA 5 wasn't designed as a live service game, yet GTA Online has dominated for over a decade, generating over $8.5 billion through microtransactions, updates, and role-playing servers. Rockstar has already dabbled in the UGC space by acquiring the FiveM mod in 2023, which allowed GTA 5 players to create custom multiplayer experiences.
Given the rising development costs of blockbuster games (GTA 6 is rumored to have a $2 billion budget), Rockstar can’t rely solely on game sales. User-generated content could provide a new revenue stream, much like Fortnite’s Creator Economy or Roblox’s paid custom experiences.
So, what would this look like in GTA 6?

How UGC Could Work in GTA 6
If Rockstar embraces player-generated content, here are some possibilities:
✅ Custom Game Modes & Role-Playing Servers – Expanding on GTA 5’s RP servers, GTA 6 could offer built-in tools for custom missions, businesses, and activities.
✅ Creator Monetization – Like Fortnite’s Creator Program, Rockstar could allow players to sell custom skins, vehicles, or even entire game modes, taking a cut of the revenue.
✅ Seamless Integration into GTA Online 2 – Instead of replacing core gameplay, Rockstar might offer a separate mode, where players can explore UGC content without affecting the main experience.
✅ Brand Collaborations & Advertisements – Content creators and even real-world brands might get in-game promotions within GTA 6’s open world.
While this is all speculation for now, industry experts believe this move could be a game-changer. Chad Mustard, COO of metaverse studio JOGO, told Digiday:
“If Rockstar embraces user-generated content, it’s a game-changer, plain and simple. The demand for creator-driven experiences is already massive, and this could unlock unprecedented opportunities.”
What’s Next? Will Rockstar Confirm This Feature?
Rockstar has yet to officially comment on these UGC rumors, but given their interest in community-driven content (as seen with FiveM and past GTA Online updates), it wouldn't be surprising if GTA 6 introduces some form of creator tools.
With GTA 6’s release date still set for Fall 2025, we may learn more in the coming months—perhaps in GTA 6 Trailer 2.
